New Artist Feature: Vitchous Wants The ‘Buss’ @SooVitchous

Born Michael Charles Bembridge on November 2nd, 1987, but is better known by his stage name “Vitchous”. His name Vitchous arose from his crazy flow, rapid delivery, and electrifying sound. His lyrics speaks to and connects with the soul of generations. He articulates what some are afraid to say.

Vitchous was born and raised in Portland Jamaica, to parents Totlyn Holgate and Donovan Bembridge. He attended Happy Grove High school, partaking in school and community events where he showcased his talents in dancing. Vitchous however, realized early on that his talent in dance was just the beginning of something much greater. With influences from “The Greats” like Bob Marley, Buju Banton, Beres Hammond, Dennis Brown, Bounty Killer, and Shaggy; to name a few, Vitchous developed his love for music.

At the age of 15, Vitchous began writing lyrics to songs that he later preformed at his school, in his local community, and at small concerts. After much praise and admiration, Vitchous developed a name for himself on the local forefront. He was and still is seen as “The next generation of reggae explosion, right out of Portland, Jamaica”.

In 2005, Vitchous migrated to the United States to reside in Brooklyn, N.Y. and this is where his musical career began to blossom. By 2006, Vitchous was already in the studio with Ed Robinson recording his first song ‘Don’t you’. That same year, he met fellow artist; Dinero, and they later formed “Kemix Productions”, where Vitchous worked hard developing and staying true to his musical abilities and his skills as a writer. In 2010, Vitchous began working with Soulsa Productions. They contributed to songs like “Busted”, “Light up my world”, and “Looser”. Those songs later became a part of Vitchous first mixtape entitled, “Looser”; which was released on April 23rd, 2011. Vitchous received great reviews and recognition for his mixtape, which later made way for greater opportunities.FB_IMG_1442197066627

By August of 2011, Vitchous had already preformed at shows in Long Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. With this prolific catalog, Vitchous decided to take on a new adventure in Connecticut, N. Y. Entering Connecticut with great stride and confidence in his abilities as an artist, Vitchous connected with several establishments, i.e. Mac 90 Muzik, Walker Entertainment, and Cheef Entertainment. These connections contributed to Vitchous second mixtape, “Simple”, which was released March 15th, 2012. The compilation contained tracks like: “Let you in”, “Herbs”, “Drop dat”, and “Simple”. Vitchous then completed his first official video, “Let you in”, and took part in interviews at several local radio stations like Energy Radio.

Vitchous however, also wanted to take his vibrant and hypnotic mixture back to his roots, Portland, Jamaica. Vitchous released the video to his single, “Let you in”, in Jamaica. That video debuted on Hype TV Jamaica, and hit the 14th spot on www.onlylyrics.com top 100 reggae songs. Vitchous then moved on to perform with artists like I-Octane, and was featured in the Jamaica Star. He also did several interviews on various shows like Tvj’s Intense and Hitz on 92fm.

Since then Vitchous has performed at shows with “The Greats”; Beres Hammond, Luciano, and Lady Saw, just to name a few. Currently he has been working on his first album “Big Dreams” and released three singles, “Big Dreams”, “Buss” and “Everyday”.

Vitchous does it all, from reggae, to lovers’ rock, to dance hall, and even has a little hip hop flavor. He has a sound that is all his own; one that will always keep you guessing and mesmerized by the pulsating beats. His music is inspired by his life, which includes the city where he grew up, and where he currently resides, and incorporates both beauty and crime. However, Vitchous is all about making “Connections” between people. He aspires for his music to connect people from different races, cultures, economic backgrounds, and even from different countries. Vitchous wants his music to be a universal language; one where understanding, love, and oneness among people can be evoked.
